Surgical Oncology services are now inclining towards the Organ Preservation Surgeries which allows the patient to retain his/her normal lifestyle and appearance without having to undergo any heroic surgery.
Cancer treatment sometimes change the appearance of a body part, while presence of Micro-vascular & Re-constructive surgery helps to repair that damage and retain the beauty.
HCGMCC’s medical oncology specialty team works towards preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer by offering the highest levels of treatment protocols and customized multi-modality therapies. Medical Oncology is a modality of treatment in cancer care which uses Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy, Hormonal Therapy and Targeted Therapy to treat cancer in an effective manner. Medical Oncology is usually works in conjunction with Surgical Oncology or Radiation Oncology to give the best clinical outcomes.
In addition to Chemotherapy, the department also runs protocols and specializes in out-patient and ambulatory chemotherapy. Their medical oncology service includes treatments for solid tumors, specialized outpatient chemotherapy with chemo ports and hematological neoplasm in adults and children.
The continuous process of the department of radiation oncology:
For the 1st time in North Maharashtra, HCGMCC has all the three modalities of radiation oncology under one roof:
TomoTherapy-H & Elekta Versa HD: Introducing TomoTherapy-H, the next generation of radiation, for the first time in Maharashtra. TomoTherapy-H is an advanced form of cancer treatment that combines Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) with the accuracy of Computed Tomography (CT) Scanning technology (IGRT – Image Guided Radiotherapy), all in one machine.Elekta Versa HD is designed to provide the precision and speed necessary to deliver advanced Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SRT) and Stereotactic Radiosurgery SRS), techniques that demand the maximum accuracy in tumour targeting and protection of critical structures.
LINEAR ACCELERATOR: A Linear Accelerator is the device most commonly used for external beam radiation treatments for patients with cancer. The linear accelerator is used to treat all parts/organs of the body. It delivers high-energy x-rays or electrons to the region of patient’s tumor.
BRACHYTHERAPY: Brachytherapy is a form of radiotherapy where a sealed radiation source is placed inside or next to the area requiring treatment. Brachytherapy is commonly used as an effective treatment for cervical, prostate, breast and skin cancer and can also be used to treat tumours in many other body sites.
HCGMCT is the 1st hospital in North Maharashtra to have Gamma Camera, Cardiac PET and a dedicated Iodine Therapy ward.
PET-CT has revolutionized medical diagnosis in many fields, by adding precision of anatomic localization to functional imaging, which was previously lacking from pure PET imaging.
Gamma rays are mostly used in oncology to treat cancer. They can also be used to spot tumors. Gamma rays can kill living cells and damage malignant tumor. IE is mostly used when the primary tumor has been removed surgically but the oncologist believes that some clusters of tumor cells may remain in the vicinity of the surgical site, when the tumor is detected in early stage of its growth and when low-dose radiotherapy is more harmful to tumor cells than to surrounding tissues; such as in certain skin cancers.
Gallium-68-DOTATATE PET-CT scan: The best imaging modality for neuroendocrine tumors (Carcinoids Pheochromocytomatous, etc.)
Gallium-68-PSMA PET-CT scan: The most sensitive imaging modality for prostate carcinoma.
Radioactive iodine (H131), an isotope of iodine that emits radiation, s used for medical purposes. When o small dose of 1131 is swallowed, It is absorbed Inte the bloodstream in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and concentrated from the blood by the thyroid gland, where it begins destroying the gland's cells.
Robotic surgery or robot-assisted surgery, allows surgeons to perform many types of complex procedures with more precision, lexibility and control than possible with conventional techniques. It integrates advanced computer technology with the experience of the skilled surgeons. This technology provides the surgeon with a 10x magniied, high-deinition, 3D-image of the body's intricate anatomy. After successful inception of ''Laparoscopic Cancer Unit'' in 2017, HCG Manavata is now starting state-of-the-art ''Institute of Robotic Surgery'' irst of its kind in whole of Northern Maharashtra. HCG Manavata Cancer Centre is now equipped with the Versius Surgical Robot by Cambridge Medical Robotics, UK which will enhance the precision, lexibility and control during the operation and allow our surgeons to perform delicate and complex procedures that may have been dificult or impossible with other methods. There are many beneits of having a robot-assisted surgery. A robot assisted surgery beneits you directly - shorter recovery time - as well as indirectly - the surgeon has better visualization, leading to a more precise surgery.
